Pharmacy Updates

Training Contribution for Post-Registration Development for Early Career Pharmacy Professionals in the South East in 2025/26.

Nationally, and within the South East, there is a need to ensure newly qualified and early career pharmacy professionals (until they develop their skills prior to advance practice) are supported with their continued development as they work to deliver high quality care to patients in our communities locally, and support the delivery 3 shifts central to the 10-year health plan.

As you are already aware, we have developed a list of nationally and locally funded training courses for pharmacists and pharmacy technicians (attached), based on results of the Surrey Heartlands ICB Early Careers Pharmacy Workforce Scoping Survey December 2024. This includes clinical/service provision training courses and non-clinical skills training offers.

Surrey Heartlands ICB has now also secured some funding from NHSE WT&E South East Pharmacy to support the development of the newly qualified and early careers (EC) pharmacy workforce across all sectors for 2025/ 2026. We are delighted to allocate £24,000 to support EC pharmacy workforce development in primary care across Surrey Heartlands, including those in GP practices/PCNs, community hospitals, out-of-hours providers and ICB staff.

This training contribution should enable employers to provide the necessary supervision, work-based learning and part/fully fund any associated module fees (PG Credits). It must not duplicate other funding and investment streams. The conditions of funding, inclusion and exclusion criteria are highlighted in this Request Form.

Please refer to the list of already funded training courses and complete the EC Funding Request Form, outlining how your organisation/ PCN could utilise the funding contribution. This should include any training provider(s), number of learners and cost. GP practices should submit ONE funding request per PCN. Please submit your funding requests to me by Friday 22nd August.

The funding requests will be reviewed by system-wide senior pharmacy leadership, and you will be notified of the outcome by Friday 5th September. If you have any questions or would like to discuss further, please email Ritienne.fenech@nhs.net or the Surrey Training Hub syheartlandsicb.surreytraininghub@nhs.net.
