Advanced Practitioner Training

If you would like to look into alternative HEIs, this can also be discussed. A Child-specific programme or Mental Health-specific programme would be considered.

Educating Health Professionals module and Education for Health Professionals full PGCert at the University of Surrey (Part time)

The course Education for Health Professionals PGCert | University of Surrey  is for registered health professionals, looking to develop creative and innovative approaches to teaching and professional practice, exploring the complexities associated with professional assessment and curriculum design. You’ll study topics including state of the art of learning and teaching, framing learning through the curriculum and supporting education in practice.

The next intake is Autumn 2025 but the University is holding a Postgraduate Open Evening, where course leaders will be happy to chat through individual circumstances.

The PGCert has a maximum registration period of 3 years, with most students completing in 1 - 2 years and all UK registered Health Professionals are welcome to apply. For the full PGCert there is a requirement for students to be working in a role that allows them to teach others so as to give them the opportunity to successfully achieve in their assessments. The modules have a hybrid approach to learning but on this programme / module it is predominately in person due to the workshop nature of the teaching activities.

General Practice Assistant (GPA)

Buckinghamshire New University (BNU) offers a nationally accredited General Practice Assistant (GPA) Level 4 course, designed for administrative staff in general practice who wish to expand their roles to include both administrative and basic clinical responsibilities. The course aligns with the national GPA competency framework and is typically completed over six months. It includes online learning modules, supervised practical experience within a GP setting, and the development of a competency-based portfolio signed off by a clinical supervisor. Upon successful completion, participants receive a certificate of achievement equivalent to 10 credits at Level 4. The programme is funded by NHS England and is open to existing staff in roles such as receptionists, phlebotomists, secretaries, healthcare assistants, and administrators (banded 2–4).

Health Professional as an Educator Module and Leading Practice Education full PGCert at The University of Brighton (Part time)

These qualifications are for practising health professionals (Nurses and AHPs) who wish to gain the skills, knowledge and behaviours to be an effective educator and development leader within a practice or healthcare education context. The stand alone module has some spaces for start dates in Spring and Summer 2025 ( Health Professional as an Educator | Health CPD modules at University of Brighton ) and is delivered in a blended learning style with 5 taught days. It aims to develop your confidence, skills and knowledge as an educator and encourages you to critique educational theories as well as yourself, enabling you to apply evidence to your teaching practice and demonstrate effective learning in practice settings. The next intake for the full PGCert Leading Practice Education PGCert (brighton.ac.uk )  is not until Autumn 2025 but please do have a look and get in touch by applying to both the University and us at the Training Hub if you are interested in either the module or the full PGCert.

Independent Prescribing

Medical Ultrasound
Non-obstetrics diagnostic ultrasound training

King’s College London offers a Postgraduate Certificate (PGCert) in Clinical Ultrasound, tailored for healthcare professionals aiming to develop foundational skills in diagnostic ultrasound. This programme is ideal for those new to ultrasound or seeking to formalize and enhance their existing clinical practice.

The PGCert combines academic instruction with hands-on clinical training. Students engage in approximately 21 hours per week of one-to-one supervised scanning, allowing them to apply diagnostic ultrasound imaging skills in real-world settings. The curriculum covers key areas such as Ultrasound Physics, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, General Medical Ultrasound, and Musculoskeletal Ultrasound, providing a comprehensive understanding of various ultrasound applications.

Musculoskeletal Ultrasound

This part-time, one-year programme, Postgraduate Certificate (PgCert) in Musculoskeletal Ultrasound is offered by Brunel University of London. It is ideal for clinicians in the NHS, private practice, or elite sports settings aiming to enhance their musculoskeletal assessment and treatment skills.

This module aims to enhance students' ability to recognise and report pathology on imaging accurately. It emphasises understanding the clinical relevance of sonographic findings and their impact on patient care pathways. A significant component involves work-based learning, where students must arrange a clinical mentor to supervise their practical experience. Students are required to complete a total of 250 ultrasound scans as part of their clinical training. Of these, 100 scans must be directly supervised, and the remaining 150 can be performed independently under mentorship.
