Infection Prevention Control Lead Training

Overview of training and development resources

To enable IPC leads to continuously professionally develop their skills and knowledge, Surrey Heartlands ICB provides the opportunity to attend IPC forum meetings on a quarterly basis throughout the year. The forums provide the opportunity to build upon your core skills and knowledge that you will gain from undertaking level 1 & 2 skills for Health IPC training, which is fully funded by the ICB.

Please read the information below to find out how to access all of these resources, which will support you to fulfil your responsibilities in accordance with CQC quality standards, NHSE Education framework and  Code of Practice for the prevention of infections.

The ICB system lead for IPC invites all IPC Leads and other interested primary care staff to attend our Primary Care IPC Forum on Infection Prevention and Control. ANYONE in practice can be an Infection Prevention Control Lead. Please consider this important role which links directly to the CQC Quality Standard. NHSE have also developed an Education Framework for the role which supports the necessary training and support required.

The recommended training for IPC Leads is to complete Skills for Health modules 1&2. Each module costs £12 and you can reclaim the full £24 via our CPD Application Process. It is also important to understand the regulatory requirements. These are set out in section 1.4 of the following link: Health and Social Care Act 2008: code of practice on the prevention and control of infections and related guidance - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk).

There is also an expectation that you will attend the quarterly forums run by the ICB which will help to keep you updated in accordance with the National IPC Manual, build on that knowledge base to implement into clinical practice, professionally develop your skills and also support your colleagues to comply with IPC standards. For more information on the forums and to book via Eventbrite please see below.

Register on Eventbrite following the link below. This session will be held via Microsoft Teams; the link will be emailed prior to the training.
