Venepuncture

Aim of the Session:

  • To enhance understanding of the anatomy and physiology relating to obtaining venous samples
  • To explore legislation, policy and good practice related to venepuncture

Duration:
3 hours

All for whom appropriate to the role 

The training is face-to-face and will be held at Farnham Hospital.

Learning Outcomes:

This course helps:

  • Raise Awareness of anatomy and physiology relevant to venepuncture
  • Identify the procedure required and preparing, obtaining and transportation of blood samples
  • Discuss potential complications and infection control issues relating to venepuncture
  • Raise awareness around legal and professional considerations in regard to venepuncture
  • Link theory to practice by demonstrating safe and correct procedure on training arm
Pre course work:
  • Participants are advised to revise their knowledge of the anatomy and physiology of the venous system prior to the day.
  • The participant will need to identify a mentor in the workplace to provide support and to complete competencies in venepuncture.
  • All participants should be up to date on basic life support and infection control.
