PLEASE ENSURE YOU CONSULT YOUR PRACTICE MANAGER BEFORE BOOKING ONTO ANY TRAINING COURSES. THANK YOU.
This one day workshop is designed for all registered practitioners who have not previously completed any mentorship or clinical educator's qualification but who supervise students whilst in practice.
The Practice Supervisor role is based on the new NMC Standards for “Student Supervision and Assessment” published in May 2018. HCPC registrants are encouraged to engage in this provision to ensure the delivery of safe and effective learning experiences.
Aims & Learning Outcomes:
• To understand the new NMC standards, different roles and responsibilities
• To understand the basics of coaching
• To be aware of how to assess learning needs, set learning objectives and create a learning environment
• To understand how to give effective feedback and feedforward
The Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) has reviewed and updated the standards of proficiency for registered nurses and the standards for education and training. The new standards have been developed to reflect the changing role that nurses will play in the future. The new standards have a greater emphasis on leadership, multi-disciplinary working and working across different settings.
Students are assigned a practice supervisor, practice assessor and an academic assessor. Practice supervisors can be any registered health and social care professional and contribute to the student’s record of achievement. Nurses qualifying this year will already be Practice Supervisors, as this training will form part of their pre-registration course. It is therefore expected that all existing registered nurses are able to act as Practice Supervisors and offer oversight to students.
There is an expectation for participants to complete a pre-workshop learning styles questionnaire. This will be emailed to you in advance of the session.
Following attendance at this workshop and successful completion of a portfolio, attendees will be included on their organisation's database of Practice Supervisors.
For Nurses only - this workshop is a foundation for Practice Assessor workshop (dates for which will be advertised separately).
